Corns and Calluses

Corns and Callus are hard shields the foot develops to defend itself against pressure, irritation or friction. The pressure or friction that most commonly causes corns is produced simply by shoes or ground pressure against the balls of the feet.. The longer the pressure continues, the worse the corn gets. Hammertoes and bunion deformities often cause unnatural contact against the shoe resulting in corns. Deformity makes one of the joints or the end of the toe get more pressure.

Soft corns may form between the toes, as a result of pressure from one toe rubbing against its neighbor. Home treatment consists of soaking the foot in warm, soapy water, then using a pumice stone or fine emery board to file the surface of the corn along with OTC corn pads. If pain still persists, a Podiatry visit will determine whether your corn is caused by deformity, biomechanical pathology or simply wearing the wrong shoes. Sterile pedicures, shoe modifications, injection therapy and surgical cures are offered, depending on your pain level, your activity level and your lifestyle.

Lifestyle Podiatry is a podiatry practice tailored to the needs, coverage & pocketbook of every foot. All our doctors accept many different kinds of medical insurance. If one does not, we will accommodate you by allowing another doctor to treat you. Please call us if you have any questions about a particular insurance, as we most likely accept it.
