Diabetes and Feet

Diabetes is on the rise and all diabetics are warned that their metabolic disease is known to affect the eyes, the kidneys and the feet early and with often tragic consequences.

Poor circulation, numbness and burning, loss of balance and strength, foot ulcers, infections and all too often gangrene and amputation if not prevented and aggressively treated can result in major performance issues and loss of quality of life for diabetics.

Starting with a State of the Art lower extremity evaluation for diabetes, Dr. Shavelson can classify your feet as to the level of impact your diabetes has had on them.  Then a program of care can be custom developed to treat and reverse any existing problems and prevent future problems from developing.

Working along side of internists and endocrinologists as part of the diabetes health professional team, podiatry has been proven to be a valuable asset in maintaining longevity and quality of life for diabetics.

It is the goal of LifeStyle Podiatry to educate every diabetic about how The Functional Foot Typing SystemTM developed by Dr. Shavelson enhances the ability understand how diabetes will affect the feet of each diabetic more effectively

Studies on the B Vitamins (especially sublingually delivered B-12), Alpha Lipoic Acid, Evening Primrose Oil, Capsaicin and Arnica are available to physicians upon request.

In addition, the use of Foot CentringsTM to reduce mechanical pressure and excess motion that has been proven to compress nerves in patients with peripheral neuropathy will often times delay or reverse numbness, burning and tingling of the feet.
